6 Important Tips For Your Big Move Day
1. Consider hiring a removal company
Hiring a removal company may seem costly, but you may actually get the best value for your money if you choose the right mover, depending on your location.
Moving can take days or even weeks, especially if you have a day job or a family to look after. Just sorting out your things can take a while, as many people can be clueless about how much stuff they’ve purchased and hoarded over the years. So why not let the professionals do the other tasks for you?
Although we are based on Anglesey, we cover all of North Wales.. including but not limited to; Bangor, Llandudno, Caernarfon, Holyhead, Llangefni, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Colwyn Bay, Rhos On Sea.
2. Have a big clear out
Moving into a new property is the perfect time to start fresh and sift through all your old things. Sorting through all of your things ahead of the big day will mean that you’re not wasting time packing and moving things that you don’t need and won’t have space for in your new home. Plus, a big decluttering mission also helps you start packing those non-essential items or putting larger belongings away into storage in the meantime if necessary.
3. Colour coding storage boxes
If you are self-packing all your belongings, then it’s a good idea to colour code the storage boxes. This will save a lot of time & hassle when it comes to moving in.
4. Change your address
Aside from utility suppliers, as soon as your move date is confirmed, you should also let any people or places you have regular correspondence with know that you’re moving. For example, this could include:
- Your bank
- GP surgery
- Dentist
- Place of work
- Insurance (including pets, car and travel)
- The DVLA
- Inland Revenue
- Electoral roll (update your registration)
- TV licensing
Top tip – it’s also a smart move to get any post redirected to your new address through the Post Office. There may be a small fee for this, but it does mean the guarantee that no important letters go AWOL, or end up in the wrong hands, once you’ve moved.
5. Cleaning
Have you checked if your new home needs cleaning before you move in? If the previous owners left it dirty, it would be much easier & quicker to clean before your move day. If you are considering hiring cleaners, they will also charge less if the home is empty.
6. Screws & Bolts
Consider placing all screws & bolts into freezer bags and then labelling them before taping them to the relevant pieces of furniture. This can save a lot of headache down the line.
